Going Bohemian

” I am going to make everything around me beautiful – that will be my life” –  Else De Wolfe

Going Bohemian has become very common in the last couple of years and “Boho” is the in-word, may it be Fashion & Lifestyle , Textile Industry, Arts or Music…

Have you ever thought what is this all  about and are we somewhere being manipulated by these fancy branded companies on what Bohemian is all about?

It is not complex. Don’t be confused. It’s just being free. Wear what you want and maintain your free spirit.

Wikipedia says… “Bohemianism is the practice of an unconventional lifestyle, often in the company of like-minded people and with few permanent ties. It involves musical, artistic, literary or spiritual pursuits. In this context, Bohemians may or may not be wanderers, adventurers, or vagabonds.”

Hmm , so what does that mean?

It simply implies  that Bohemians don’t see or need to have or follow strict rules, and they don’t believe in something just because others  do. Such people  with similar liking and interests come together and create any kind of music , art or any literary work .

In today’s world, it simply applies to people who live unconventional and artistic lives. And in that sense, Boho relates to tribal lives , right?

To truly be a Boho , try not to focus so much on the materialistic “things” in your life. Historically, Bohemians hardly owned anything privately or permanently at all, even homes. Prioritize your experiences, art, and relationships above your physical possessions.

Bohemian Style – Apparel and Jewellery

Dig the bohemian style? Looks appealing, right? Those counter cultural folk, they’ve got the whole hippie – free spirit thing going. Those barefoot walking, bandana-wearing jam band fans have been on the barricades for over a century now.

Seeing all those jazzy magazine covers featuring liberated, Boho women, their hair blowing in the wind while sporting vivid colors and a hotchpotch of patterns , we tend to feel we are so non Bohemian, conventional and stereotype , isn’t it?

Bohemian fashion is just a means of expression, of what you believe in, what you really enjoy and wearing what you feel, out of your free will. Don’t let anything hold you back

The essence of Bohemian is focusing on free and flowy fabrics. Boho style jewellery commonly denotes themes relating to nature such as flowers, feathers, plants and animals. Jewellery often adds a splash of color to the outfit that makes it look interesting, and may be in any color.

To put it simply for you, Bohemian styling is all about picking the clothes and jewellery which you think looks comfortable and relaxed, complimenting your body and skin tone

Bohemian Art

Throughout history, arts have been the top means to express ideas that were not acceptable in society. Playwrights, painters, writers, poets, and  graffiti artists across time have used their art to criticize their world

Gather with your bohemian friends and chat about pursuing artistic endeavors such as making music or writing books. You can do other activities; sing, dance, draw, paint, sculpt, write poetry or write blog posts about the bohemian lifestyle.

Revive your imagination. Make art and music, I am sure it beats watching TV, playing candy crush, being glued to social media, kitty parties or other mindless activities…

Wait. What? No sarcastic tone here? Nope. Creating art is our purpose. “We are the facilitators of our own creative evolution.” – Bill Hicks

“Bohemian Nights” or “Bohemian festivals ”  are conducted in many parts of the world. It is that free community festival which features many forms of art, specialty, variety of genres of music by free- spirited artists and musicians…

Going Bohemian

“The bohemian is an outsider, defines themselves as an outsider and is defined by the world as an outsider… A lot of people regard them as subversive, elitist and possibly just a little bit immature.” – Criticalcactus.com

What I‘m trying to say is – Go Bohemian. I am not trying to define anything here. It’s simple…Don’t be worried too much about the hash tags of Boho or Bohemian around you!!!

Stay true to yourself.  Listen to the music, read the books, pick the jewellery, wear the clothes, simply backpack and travel , eat all that you love , live your life the way you like and enjoy. Go by your roots, Go by your tradition… Pick another way of living differently or whatever rocks your boat!!
